John “Jack” E. McElligott, Jr. is the oldest of seven children of John E. McElligott and Mildred “MiMi” R. McElligott. Born in Lafayette, Jack graduated from Lafayette High School in 1972. He attended LSU for his undergraduate studies and received his Bachelor of Science degree in business in 1976.
In 1979 he graduated from the LSU Law Center and has been practicing law with Davidson, Meaux, Sonnier, McElligott, Fontenot, Gideon, and Edwards since 1979 with a practice emphasis in civil litigation. Jack has long been active in professional and civic matters serving as a member of the Lafayette Parish Recreation Commission, and past President of the Lafayette Bar Association and Bar Foundation. He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, International Society of Barristers and other professional organizations. He previously served many years as a member of the House of Delegates for Louisiana State Bar Association.
Jack began working at Macro as a young teenager changing tires, making deliveries, working his summers at Macro under the tutelage of his grandfather and father. He became an owner and officer of the company and has served as general counsel for Macro for over 40 years working extensively with his mother, Richard and Bill since his father’s passing in 1984.
Over the years he has been involved with many different charities, including serving as a Board Member for Habitat for Humanity. Currently, he is a Board Member for 232-HELP. He has been very active with Cross Catholic Outreach, The Kobonal Mission in Haiti, Bishop Services Appeal, Hospice of Acadiana, the St. Thomas More Foundation, and the Ace Scholarship for Louisiana, and many other charitable causes. He is a proud parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church in Lafayette. He and his wife Lucie have been married since 1978 and are the proud parents of two children, John E. McElligott, III and Elizabeth M. Norman, who blessed them with three grandchildren, Daniel, Lucie, and Benjamin.
